Building a prosperous young communities

Puntland Youth Experts Technical Assistance (PYETA) is a non-profit making, non-partisan, nonpolitical organization that serves the needs of Puntland people and Somalia. PYETA was founded in 2010 by a group of professionals and other community activists who are concern the wellbeing of Somali people who have been affected the conflict and other natural disasters including drought, flooding, etc. PYETA focuses on supporting the poor, the oppressed and vulnerable communities, especially women and children. PYETA is committed to supporting sustainable development programs through organizing local community groups such as women and youth at the grassroots levels and supporting them.

Since the collapse of previous government, very little has been done to address the deterioration of most essential public services such as health, education, water, sanitation, etc. The founders also realized that there was a wide gender disparity in the Somali society which needed urgent attention corrective measure. PYETA is officially registered in Puntland and the head office is in Galkaio, Puntland State of Somalia. And branch offices are in Garowe and Galdogob, Puntland.

Our Programs

For the past few years, PYETA has worked in many different locations within Puntland and most of our projects were related to:

Democratisation and Good Governance

Building open, responsive, and accountable institutions and processes were our key strategies to serving the needs and preferences of the public. Participation and inclusion to ensure that all have the opportunity to participate and have a voice in how they will be governed was also our slogan during at times when we implemented Democratic, leadership, and governance programmes.

Promoting and empowering women in political participation

Our organization conducted awareness raising campaigns and advocacy forums for women to enable them to understand their untouchable rights for equal political participation. We organized debates on this agenda where men and women were both engaged to create an inclusive environment for equal political participation.

Promoting gender equality

Promoting Gender equality was key and always at the heart of all our programming areas. This being whenever we are to target beneficiaries for any kind of support, we usually apply for 50-50 representation of both genders. So, this was key part of our programme from all aspects and occasions.
